Plant and Animal Cell Diagrams
Students are to Distinguish between the basic plant cell and the basic animal cell.
They are to identify the major parts of a cell.
Complete the following questions on cell in your workbook;
1. Name the parts of a cell that are common to BOTH plant and animal cells.
2. Where do you find chromosomes? What to they do? (CHROMOSOMES diagram below!)
3. Why do plants have CHLOROPLASTS? Would it be good if animals also had these parts to their cells? (see below for diagram of CHLOROPLAST).

As the animal cell the main control centre is the nucleus, However, the plant cell also has a special hardened out cell wall and a supply of a CHLOROPLASTS which contains a chemical called CHLOROPHYLL. This special chemical is able to change SUNLIGHT into stored energy with the addition of other chemicals from the atmosphere and the soil.

The main parts of the cell are: Cell membrane, a very thin out layer, which has many holes or pores to allow the transfer of liquids into and out of the cell. The main control centre is called the NUCLEUS and inside this part of the cell we find the main reproductive material called CHROMOSOMES, these contain DNA which is divided into sections called genes. The CYTOPLASM is the 'stuff 'in the cell in which all the other parts of the cell float.
