Geocentric Model of the Solar System
This is the original model that was held by most learned people until about 500 years ago. The centre of the Universe was the Earth. Everything revolved around the earth, including the moon, sun and planets. This model was replaced by the heliocentric model when the telescope improve our ability to make accurate observations of the night sky.
the order of the planets starts with the earth at the centre.
This simple model of the Solar System shows how the planets are ordered, It was an accepted model for 2000 years. For many years people did not believe that the earth actually spins or rotates on its axis. The movement of the sun across the sky came from the sun not the rotation of the earth.
Eventually when more accurate observations could be made and pictures of the earth could be taken from space, this model was replaced by the model we now accept. The model that is currently held by most people is that the sun is the centre of the solar system with the planets in the order shown in the diagram. The sun has a very strong gravitational field which keeps the earth in orbit. The moon is kept in orbit by the earth's gravitational field.
Note how the two models are similar but they have changed the positions of the earth and the sun.
